Thank you for stopping by my website. I certainly hope you will enjoy learning more about my style of design known as Shambolic™ and viewing my wearable art.
What is my style which I call Shambolic™?
It is the combination of wool and fabric that have been uniquely hand constructed with the use of soap, water, and friction (hands). There is no sewing involved. Through the process of traditional and contemporary felting techniques the wool fibers migrate through the weave of the fabric creating a solid piece of felt. The wool shrinks and in the process it pulls the fabric with it; creating astounding tactile and texture in this newly created fabric.
Fabrics that are used to create Shambolic™ are recyled silk garments and all of its components, such as serger hems, buttons, sequins, etc. The fabrics are carefully selected with a common message (color and design) and then are randomly cut/ripped to create an organized but chaotic look. The silk is carefully placed on what is known in the felting world as a resist (pattern), merino wool is then "fiber seamed" in between the adjoining fabrics and a light layer of the merino wool is added on top. Once the resist is decorated with the silk fabric and wool on both sides of the resist the felting process begins and is completed when a seamless garment is created.
